Not just A Videographer!

Well I dropped the ball on the blog, but I'm back! I haven't done as much video lately though. That's because I'm doing more web design work.

For the past year and more I have been the webmaster of www.faithworksnow.com, a website for Gary McSpadden Ministries. This website has many features that I was able to learn from (including a Community Forum and an Online Store). I learned so much that I decided to branch out and do more. Recently I created the website for the city of Sparta, MO (www.spartamo.com). For more information on websites I have done, be sure to check out my new Web Design page at www.christiancountyvideo.com/web.

I think the combination of video and web design makes for a great business too! I can make a website, a video commercial that allows you to tell your customers about yourself, and put them all together online!

Oovvda Winery

If you haven't been to Oovvda Winery, your missing out on one of 417 land's best!

http://www.oovvda.com/

Oovvda Winery originally spoke with me about doing this video in regards to weddings. Right now, however, weddings are a very small part of their business. They do have a beautiful outdoor facility for hosting weddings, and they don't mind if you schedule one there and host it yourself. In the future they hope to purchase a license to sell liquor by the glass, so they can help cater the receptions.

The Potter's Mansion

(updated on 5/4/09)
The Potter's Mansion was an awesome ministry developed by Sue Garard. It encompassed an overwhelming amount of helps for many. Unfortunately, the adequate funding was not supplied. Sue closed the ministry at the Potters Mansion and the historical house is up for sale again.
We will keep this video on the blog for an example of the kind of work we can do. We also pray Sue will do well in the next avenue she decides to pursue!

Oovvda Winery and the Potter's Masion

We visited two wonderful places yesterday!

Oovvda Winery is located just 10 minutes off of the major intersection of I-44 and Hwy 65 in Springfield. We went to capture this winery for a commercial. The owners, Fran and Brian are very friendly, informative and helpful. Plus they really do like kids as we took our boys and they got to play with the neighbor's horses and mulch pile while Ben videotaped! This would be a spectacular place to get your wine for your rehearsal dinner and reception. They also have wine tasting which would be fun for a bachelorette party or luncheon! Our favorites ended up being the cherry wine and the sweet blackberry. Yum, yum! They are considering hosting weddings at their location which would be awesome in the spring or fall. They really have put extensive work into their landscaping. It would be romantic to set out a tent with billowing curtains, some white chairs, tables, candlelight, wine and cheese surrounded by the country and a winery!

Our next stop was the Potter's Mansion which is located in Fair Grove just north of Springfield. This is a ministry dedicated to helping women and children. It is located in a beautiful historic home in a country location. It was so peaceful there. Sue the owner has it beautifully decorated and really wants people to come, pray and dream. This gorgeous mansion is open for weddings with a staircase that leads right out to the front porch with the huge pillar columns reminiscent of days gone by. This is a donation only building so we do encourage families and churches to pray about giving to the Potter's Mansion and the restoration of the people who visit. It is open to the public, anyone who needs to just get away, weddings, reunions, etc.
Commercials for both of these locations will be coming soon so stay tuned! You don't want to miss these amazing places with amazing owners!

Alexander Events

We had a meeting this morning with Samantha from Alexander Events. It was a pleasure speaking with her. Alexander Events can coordinate any event: weddings, reunions, banquets, birthday parties, etc. Samantha is involved with many networks in the Springfield area and has a wealth of information from vendors and awesome locations. Alexander Events specializes in event coordinating packages starting as low as $200, which is so worth it when you don't have to be concerned about every small detail. She has a site which lists several different options she offers including information about having a "green" wedding! Visit her website: http://www.alexanderevents.vpweb.com/ or call her 417-988-8949 for more details and to schedule a consultation.

February Luv Bug Meeting!

Once a month a group of wedding vendors get together to get to know each other better with a meal catered by a wedding vendor at a venue that hosts weddings. The group is called the Luv Bugs.

This month the meeting was held at the Whitestone Wedding Chapel in Marshfield, MO and food was catered in by P & D Catering.

If you have not yet seen the Whitestone Wedding Chapel, I will post another entry next with a video segment about the chapel. It is beautiful and Kate Bryce is more than willing to help you host your wedding.

P & D Catering advertises "Professional Catering with a Personal Touch Specializing in custom designed menus to accommodate any occasion!" Our comment: their food is Delicious and I would be thrilled to have them cater any of our events in the future! Plus they are very personable and helpful too!

During the Luv Bug Meeting 4 local Wedding Planners & Directors had the chance to promote themselves. I will list the Ladies below. They are all a wealth of information regarding weddings and provide a wide array of services.

For the ipod listeners:

I recently stumbled on a website where you can download wedding talk show podcasts: The Wedding Podcast Network. The podcasts discuss a variety of wedding subjects, including:

  • Brides recall their weddings and their experiences
  • Grooms discuss their concerns about the wedding
  • Wedding Industry Professionals share their thoughts and advice
  • Listen to hot and trendy happenings in the bridal scene
The show that I listened to in particular is in the "Meet the Masters" series (where wedding professionals share advice). This podcast includes interviews with 14 videographers who were among those named "the top 25 videographers in the country" in 2007. This podcast may be a year or two old, but the advice seems timeless.

Do you want to know what the top videographers in the country recommend? Check out this link and listen to the podcast yourself! You can click play to listen at your computer, or scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the very small text link that says
"Direct download: MTMSEEventDV25.mp3"
to download your own copy!

The Bridal Show

I'm a bit late in posting my review, but Jemma and I really enjoyed the Metropolitan Bridal Show. Were you there? If so, I hope you took the chance to meet with us! We did get to meet many brides at the show, and from time to time a groom would stick his head out of the "man cave" to see what his fiance was up to.

I also enjoyed meeting many other wedding vendors from the area, and almost all of them were very friendly! I would like to promote a few of the ones that we really enjoyed:

Unique Expressions Photography
Sue and her husband were in the booth next to us for the Bridal Show. They showcased some very beautiful wedding pictures at the show and we really enjoyed their company (and advice). If you need a photographer for any event, check them out!

Preston Dial Photography
Jemma had the chance to meet with Preston and Travis. They were super nice and very helpful with business tips too. They had one of the best photography booths at the show and they do some beautiful work! Check them out!

Photobooth Planet
A new trend in the wedding industry today is to have a photo booth at your wedding. Photobooth Planet is by far our favorite, and they have been doing this business for 8 or more years now. They are EXTREMELY fun and you and your guests will have a blast with them at your reception. Here's Our pictures! (Sorry, the scanner wasn't working properly -- this is a picture of the picture.)

Whitestone Wedding Chapel in Marshfield
Saturday night, during the booth setup, we had a chance to meet Kate and Ronny Bryce. Ronny is a hoot and we really enjoyed meeting them. I may go do a video shoot of their chapel at some point. (I'd still like to get some video of wedding locations on our site.) They have a great looking chapel and they are good people to do business with!

Advertising Plus
If you're looking for wedding gifts or personalized party favors, you can find it at Advertising Plus. Julia Strong is a great person and very helpful.

Venues to Host your wedding...

We have intentions of creating a section in our website that would highlight interesting and/or local places to hold your wedding and reception. I'm curious to see if there are any places you would like to know about!

Recently, locally in Christian County, I stumbled upon two locations that I didn't realize were there:

One is Highland Place. Here's a link to their website. I actually had a chance to meet one of the owners there, Stephanie Ashley. She's been a local Disc Jockey, and last year (I think she said last year), she purchased Highland Place to make it a hall for receptions, parties, and other events. They do have a beautiful facility. I wasn't able to videotape it for you to review here though. I'll see if I can do that in the future.

Another location I stumbled upon is the Bell Tower Chapel. We emailed back and forth for a time that I could go out to see them. After four to six weeks of trying to see if they were open for me to see their facility, I gave up. I have not gotten around to calling them back since. If they are that busy though, that could be a good thing. Their website shows a beautiful place. You may like it! Here's the link.

If you have never heard of the Garden of Dreams and Honeybranch Cave (just east of Sparta), you might check it out too. Here's the link. They have been hosting weddings there for years. It's an outdoor facility (so they are closed through the winter), with a beautiful garden surrounding the Honeybranch Cave. They have a place for reception and they did provide a Disc Jockey, although I'm not sure if they still do -- the website is a bit confusing on that point.

So do you have any places that you think sound interesting? Do you have comments about the above venues? Let us know!
